What our Pupil Welfare Officers can do for you …
Our Pupil Welfare Officers
Paula Chaplin
Pupil Welfare Officer
Hello and welcome to the medical room. My name is Mrs. Chaplin and along with my colleague Mrs. Austin-Spikesley, we are the Pupil Welfare Officers of Primary School. We provide both medical and intimate care for all our students.
Our location is in the medical room, situated next to the dining room. We offer constant support and welfare to our students, covering tasks from tolerating sickness and general and emergency first aid to administrative medication and the creation of individual care plans, social stories, and the development of independence.
We are trained to support individual students with specific and complex medical needs, such as diabetes, ensuring the safety of all our students while at school. As People Welfare Officers, we also organise first aid bags for off-site trips, coordinate school vaccinations and dental screenings, and support residential activities if needed.
Our medical facilities include a large secure medication unit where all our students’ medication and care plans are stored, including emergency medication accessible by all staff in case of an emergency. We have two disabled toilets, both fitted with showers, where we assist and support students with toileting, changing, and other hygiene concerns when necessary.
A medical bed is available to support multiple students, including those who are unwell and awaiting collection, as well as some of our students suffering from epilepsy who may need a place to recover. Additionally, we have access to an emergency wheelchair, which can be used to transfer students if required.
I hope this gives you insight into the Pupil Welfare and the medical team at Primary School. If you have any inquiries or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
