Peter Pan Summer Show

Join us on Thursday June 19 for a magical presentation of Peter Pan by the students of Pinewood!

Tractors on Tour!

We are delighted to have been selected as the chosen charity for the Tractors on Tour Charity Road Run this Summer, taking place on July 12th from Hoddesdon through Stanstead Abbotts, Ware, Hertford and finishing in Brickendon.

We’ll post more information soon and are very much looking forward to the big day, hoping as many members of the Pinewood Community as possible can be there too!

Fish Heroes!

The Food Teacher’s Centre – Fish Heroes, in collaboration with Alaska Seafood UK and DFDS Group, had a promotion giving away free canned salmon to schools. The idea is to encourage children to eat more fish  as it is a healthy choice and  is also recommended on the Government’s Eatwell Guide. Pinewood School applied to the scheme and we received our delivery of free canned salmon last week.  (Picture of Summer holding the tins, Niaz and Florence).

Last Thursday, Miss Howarth demonstrated a ‘Head of Fish Balti Curry’, using hake, to Oliver Class.  Oliver Class then had the opportunity to produce their own amazing dishes.  We had lots of fun and the fabulous aroma of fish curry filled the corridors which meant we had lots of inquisitive visitors from other classes enquiring what we had been cooking.

Build Update – February 2025

Over the past month there has been significant progress with the new school build.

The pouring of foundation pads has been completed for some parts of the new building and the steel framework has begun to be erected marking a major point in the process where the building starts to take shape.

Meanwhile, at the temporary school work has taken place to improve the carpark and the new Gym unit has been completed, ready for the gym equipment to be installed.

The project continues to remain on track for us to move into the new school from January 2026.

Build Update – January 2025

Here’s a New Year update on the progress of the new school build at Pinewood School.

The last months of 2024 saw the contractors demolishing the old school building once we had moved in o the temporary school on the field.

Since then they have been extremely busy building the base for a new electricity substation, rerouting services such as drainage and forming the new entrance road.

Since Christmas they have begun work on preparing the ground ready for the concrete base on which the new building will stand and we can expect to see that base being formed in the near future along with the first steel structures of the building being erected.

Thanks for coming!

A huge thank you to every one who attended our Fete on Saturday, what an amazing day it was and fantastic to see so many past and present pupils and the wider community there!

Build Update 2 – May 2024

It’s now May and work has continued steadily on the temporary accommodation site. The groundworks are now almost complete with a level surface having been prepared ready for the delivery of the temporary building modules in the next few weeks.

By the end of May, the buildings should have been erected and work will begin on the fit-out.

The builders have their own ‘village’ which is secured off from the main school site for safety reasons. The gaps in the hoarding around the site are deliberate to allow students to watch the progress and prepare for the change that’s coming from September when we move in.

Musicians Department Assembly

Today our Musicians department assembly celebrated the learning they’ve been doing over the spring term so far and parents were invited to come along and watch.

Celebrating Dyslexia Awareness Week 2023

October is the home of Dyslexia Awareness Week and at Pinewood we know how important this is for our students and millions of people around the world, young and old.

Ms Burnside produced this video a couple of years ago now about how dyslexia affects people and how we help students at Pinewood who have it.

World Book Day 2023

World Book Day is a well-loved annual event, and this year has been no exception!

Pinewood has been filled with colourful clothing and creative props. Pupils and staff alike dressed as their favourite book characters, and spent the day immersed in different literary worlds, with class activities ranging from stop frame animations, to creating class books.

Pinewood continues to instil a love of reading in our young people, and it has been so rewarding to see our keen readers in action.

Delayed Santa Dash!

Congratulations to all our Santa Dash runners; we really did go the extra mile in today’s fun run!  With the weather resulting in 2 previous attempts being re-arranged, today’s conditions were perfect!  Pupils throughout the school lined up across the playground and field in anticipation of the start whistle.  Participants walked or ran the course, many dressed in Santa Suits, Santa Beards or Santa Hats!  The atmosphere was magical!

The 30-minute event resulted in Pinewood pupils dashing 1022 laps, raising a whopping £1,391.62 for Pinewood’s PTFA.  Amazon vouchers were awarded as class prizes for:

Class Cox Class with the most laps – short course
Castellon Class with the most laps – long course
Class Keller Class with the most sponsorship
Class Beckham (Mrs Klein) Best Santa Suit
Class Grey Thompson (Zoe) Best Santa Hat
Class Beckham (George) Best Santa Beard
Class Keller Best Medal Design (for December 2023)
Class Ali (Jay & James) Best effort

A big “Thank You” to you – the PTFA – parents, families and staff.  And, of course, to all our pupils.  It was lovely to see so many receiving certificates and medals for their participation in such a fabulous event.

Save the Date: The next Santa Dash is on: Friday 1st December 2023.

With thanks,

Mr Goss (KS3 Class Teacher – Group ‘Wonder’)
