Building bridges with those around us…

The Pinewood School Community

Our Communities

Pinewood School values the relationship that they have built up with the wider community over the past years, including local primary and secondary schools, Further Education Colleges and local businesses. Our pupils take part in a work experience week during Year 10 and have placements within retailers, businesses and schools (within a wide radius) where they learn new skills and develop their independence.

We have developed close links with many local businesses, who have supported Pinewood School by volunteering to create a sensory garden, a traverse climbing wall and a vegetable garden. Volunteers have helped to paint our gym and have carried out a whole host of other activities for our benefit.

We have excellent links with The Mayor of Ware who attends assemblies, Christmas dinner and The Year 11 Leavers events. He also chose Pinewood to be the beneficiary of some funds to help run our youth club.

We also actively encourage parents/carers and 6th Form students (from our local Secondary School, Presdales) to help within our classes to support teaching and learning.

Pupils benefit highly from the work of these individuals. They become accustomed to the extra support and work with a range of people from all walks of life, nationalities and cultures and beliefs. They soon become advocates of the school.

We are keen to promote Pinewood School as one that warmly welcomes visitors as friends of the school.

Our PTFA is extremely active; all parents/ carers are automatically members and meetings are held once a term to organize events, such as a Promise Auction, Mother’ and Father’s Day gift sales for pupils. Funds raised by the PTFA have supported the school by purchasing books for the Library, coach cost for trips and markings within our sports court. We also hold a Parents’ coffee afternoon every half term.

We have received sponsorship from many local firms, including donations towards our Drama Studio and prize-giving books for our leaving Year 11 pupils, and are very grateful to all of our supporters. We highly value our links with the wider community, as we continue to develop on-going partnerships and friendships in order to enhance and create opportunities for our pupils.

Many of our year 11 pupils are Sports Leaders who work closely with to support other primary schools in the area.
We pride ourselves in working with local charities and have many people in to speak in assemblies from the local community.

All of the volunteers that visit thoroughly enjoy their time with the pupils and staff and are impressed with our sense of community and wherever they go in the community our pupils are welcomed and appreciated.
